Patrice Jenner, a former Royal Corps of Transport warrant officer sets up an all-women taxi firm. In the first series the business is established and a team of drivers are recruited including: transsexual Scarlett (Caroline Blakiston), Janet (Louise Jameson), Sue-Lyn (Katharine Schlesinger), Aileen (Lynda Steadman), Aggie (Nimmy March), and George (Nicola Cowper). In the second series Patrice discovers she is pregnant by her partner Julian (James Purefoy) and has difficulties with her daughter Beki (Lucy Speed), Janet tries to adopt a Third World baby and Scarlett’s private life is exposed in a tabloid newspaper. Rides was written by Carole Hayman who also features as Stella.
